About the Book
Around The Floodlit Grounds is a collection of 38 photographs taken outside 38 different football grounds at night while games were going on inside. Photographer Ian Hughes says that "Nondescript suburban cul-de-sacs, old terraced streets or quiet country lanes can be transformed - lit up like Hollywood film sets by the beams of artificial light spilling over from the local football ground. I feel compelled to photograph these scenes. If a football ground has floodlights then I want to photograph it and its surrounding area."

I first became interested in photography while at art college in Wallasey, Merseyside in 1987. I spent nearly eight years working as a Cruiseship Photographer, based mostly in Miami, Florida, before settling in Brighton on the south coast of England. In 2006 I gained a BA (Hons) Degree in Editorial Photography at the University of Brighton. I no longer work in the photographic industry, but continue to take pictures on a daily basis, many of which can be seen on my website - www.ianhughesphotos.com. I was recently selected as a finalist for the International Street Photography Award 2012, as part of the London Festival of Photography in June 2012 (www.lfph.org).
