About the Book
On October 18, 2009 at the age of 21, I set out from my home of Winnipeg, Canada to travel around the world and visited 33 countries. With nothing more than a backpack on my shoulders and a loose itinerary of a southeast direction, I accomplished what at first scared me the most; traveling alone. I set some ground rules to keep things interesting and to ensure I was staying within a relatively shoestring budget. I wanted to show that it does not take a great deal of money to travel the world, but rather a unique sense of adventure. I took land transportation whenever possible and opted to CouchSurf or use my tent, all while avoiding hotels and hostels. I encountered several obstacles along the way; getting lost in the wild, having no place to sleep for the night, being in a historic natural disaster, and attempting to overcome demanding goals. Through several short stories and a journal like blog, I go through the highlights and adventures that anyone with a sense of travel should enjoy. ***A PDF optimized eBook is also available from Blurb.
