About the Book
The photographs in this book display my collection of primarily Hispanic Colonial furniture, with the exception of only four pieces. This collection represents my long-time interest in preserving cultural artifacts, contemporary and ancient. As with the nature of collecting such old pieces from a distant time and place, the information available is defined by the history and scholars specializing in this field. I've used some of these experts to examine and write about my collection, which is represented in the introduction essay as well as the descriptions of individual pieces. The pieces that were unable to be identified by experts I assume to be equally provincial because they were purchased in good faith. Three pieces, designed by Holler and Saunders, are made from old wood and the dining room set is from France. The rest of my collection is estimated to be 150 to 400 years old and of Hispanic origin. Their history can be traced through patina, design quality and overall craftsmanship evident in the details of this furniture. I have housed my collection in the arid climate of Phoenix for over 15 years and have found certain energy in collecting such rare and significant furniture. I invite you to examine them and find the historical value bestowed on this collection for yourself.
