About the Book
Catalogue for the solo exhibition "ATHENS─Tale of a Bailout" at The Westport Library. The exhibit offers a glimpse of everyday life in Athens as the country tried to cope with its ever-worsening economic crisis. “My trip felt like a step back in time─not into a grand, bygone era but rather into a city that felt like a pre-Guiliani Lower East Side. The ubiquitous graffiti, closed shops, boarded-up windows and abandoned houses were signs of hopelessness and despair, the aftermath of a prolonged hangover, as the country tried to cope with its ever-worsening, never-ending economic crisis. The most shocking aspect of Athens was the prevalent anger and frustration among many, while others simply looked away.”
The entire series was photographed during a visit to Greece in January 2015 in a narrow area between the Acropolis and Syntagma Square, the seat of the Greek Parliament in central Athens .
