About the Book
This is a collection of images and history behind two families rooted in the Russyn region of what was Pannonia, Galicia, Hungary, Austria-Hungary, Czechoslovakia and is now the Slovak Republic. Families rooted in the Greek Catholic priesthood represented a narrow slice of culture between the people of the land and town and the church-sponsoring aristocracy. The book relates their origin and traces the known ancestry from the 1250 roots in the court of the Arpad king Bela IV with royal land grants that followed through the printing of the first bible in Hungarian in 1589 to the emigration of the families to the United States to serve the miners and steelworkers. They were people of education, intellect and discipline.
